  22. I think trying to transmit and receive on the same port requires a buffered
  23. UART.  The interrupt latency involved would make it difficult to do what you
  24. want in a high level script.  It is difficult enough with assembly.

  26. What I have done is to run a null modem between two ports on the same
  27. machine, and then run two copies of MS-Kermit in separate windows under
  28. MSWin 3.11.  I can transfer files from one port to the other with kermit
  29. protocol, as well as ascii "transmit" with good success.

  31. On a Unix box with intelligent serial ports, I have had a cascade of one
  32. port to the next resulting in all eight ports seeing the same characters.
  33. This either works or not, depending on how good the Unix implementation is,
  34. which is the point under test ;-)
